Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

It is not possible to get stuck in hypnosis, even if you were in hypnosis and the hypnotist left the room before bringing you out (emerging you), without the continued words from the hypnotist to keep you in it, you would naturally come out.

Is hypnosis sleep?

No, it is not sleep. Even though it can look like sleep or a person in hypnosis can look like they are asleep, it is focused attention. The word hypnosis, however, does come from the word Hypnos after the Greek God for sleep. It was named incorrectly and it stuck!

Can I be made to do something in hypnosis that I would not be ok with doing out of hypnosis?

No, even when you are deep in hypnosis your subconscious mind holds your moral and ethical code and you could never be made to do something outside of that code.

What if I can not be hypnotized?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind similar to daydreaming or being distracted while driving and with your willingness to participate there is no reason why you should not be able to go into hypnosis. It is also helpful to find a hypnotherapist that you feel you can trust.

Will I know if I did in fact go into hypnosis?

Yes, your hypnotherapist will teach you and show you the different ways to know that you were in fact hypnotized. Remember: hypnosis is not going unconscious, that is sleeping. It is not that your mind will go away and you will not remember anything. Often, the mind is more alert and focused in hypnosis.

Will I remember the hypnosis?

Everyone responds in their own way to hypnosis. Some clients do go deep to the point where they do not remember they hypnosis. Some clients will say "I remember every word you said" and others will say "I remembered you talking, but I was also thinking about work and errands".

What will it feel like?

Again, everyone is different. You may feel lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, tingly, or like you're floating--just to name a few physical descriptions. Some clients will say they didn't feel anything physically, but they felt calm and/or relaxed.

Can I fail at going into hypnosis?

There is no wrong way to be in hypnosis. I will guide you through it and show you when you are in hypnosis and you will go to the perfect depth to do what you need to do in hypnosis.

Can you make me remember or erase memories?

Memories are very important to us. If the subconcious has repressed a memory, it did so for your survival, and we will not go digging for it. As you begin to cope in a healthier way, the subconscious will feel safe to bring up memories and will do so when it is ready.

With that being said, we do not erase memories because the subconcious is bringing them up for you to deal with and to heal so you can move forward.

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is a natural state that we go into throughout the day when the critical area of the mind becomes overloaded with message units, triggering our fight/flight mechanisms. This in turn creates a hyper-suggestible state, giving us access to the subconcious.

A few examples: driving a car, reading a book, watching TV, right before we fall asleep, and even during conversations. Instead of going into it involuntarily throughout your day, you go into it willingly in a clinical setting. We use that hyper-suggestible state to create positive changes.

Can you fix me?

As a hypnotherapist, I do not believe you are broken. I cannot "fix" you but rather change your subconscious programming to be on the same page as your conscious. This is something that needs to be changed not "fixed".

How many sessions does it take?

This really depends on you as an individual. Two people can come in with the same issue but have completely different programming. One person could be done in one to three sessions, and another person could take several sessions.

What do I need for hypnosis to be the most successful it can be?

The key ingredients needed when coming in for hypnosis include the following:

  • Desire to make a change
  • Willingness to partiipate when going into hypnosis
  • Patience

How soon will I see results?

Again, this is an individual experience. Some clients will leave their session and feel a shift happening right away. Others will have a delayed response, meaning it takes a few days before they notice a shift. And few will say things got worse for a day or two and then saw improvement.

This is because we’re changing neuro pathways in the mind, and your subconscious will respond how it sees fit. I’m not waving a magic wand and then “poof” all the problems are gone.

You’ll notice shifts happening mentally and emotionally with the changes become easier. You’ll also notice the arguing in your mind quiets and calms down. Nearly 90 percent of clients will report a shift or improvement after one to two sessions.
