Unlocking the Power of the Body: A Guide to Somatic Healing and Regression Hypnotherapy for Trauma Recovery

Hypnotherapy has been used for centuries as a tool for accessing the power of the body to heal from physical, psychological, and emotional problems. By tapping into the subconscious mind, individuals can revisit past experiences, resolve negative memories and emotions, and release pent-up tension stored in the body, leading to significant improvements in mental, physical, and emotional health.
In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the fascinating roots of hypnotherapy in somatic healing, and explore the many benefits of using regression hypnotherapy to heal trauma and uncover root causes of emotional and physical issues. We will provide clear definitions of age regression, past life regression, and somatic healing, and give you information on ways to explore for yourself and help guide others through the profound and life-changing healing process that is regression hypnotherapy.
Whether you are new to the world of hypnotherapy, an experienced hypnotherapist or a practitioner and healer of another modality, this guide has something to offer for everyone looking to tap into the transformative power of the mind-body connection.
Hypnotherapy has roots in somatic healing that date back centuries. As one of the earliest forms of therapy, it was used to help individuals overcome a wide range of physical, psychological, and emotional problems, including chronic pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma.
Trauma is a significant issue that affects people from all walks of life. Whether it’s the result of a major life event, such as a car accident or a natural disaster, or the accumulation of smaller events, such as childhood neglect or abuse, trauma can leave a lasting impact on our physical, psychological, and emotional well-being. If left unaddressed, trauma can lead to chronic physical and emotional problems, such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia.
Regression hypnotherapy and somatic healing are two effective approaches to addressing and resolving the effects of trauma. Both approaches focus on accessing and resolving past experiences and emotions that are stored in the body. By exploring physical sensations and experiences in the body, clients can gain insight into the root causes of their current problems and resolve any negative memories, emotions, and behaviors associated with past experiences.
Peter Levine, author of “Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma,” uses the example of the antelope to explain the body’s natural response to threat and trauma. According to Levine, when a predator chases an antelope, the antelope instinctively runs away to escape danger. Once the antelope has escaped the danger, it will often shake its entire body to release any built-up tension and return to a state of balance and well-being.
Levine argues that humans have a similar response to threat and trauma and that our bodies naturally know how to release pent-up tension and return to a state of balance. However, when the body’s natural response to trauma is disrupted, the physical and emotional tension can remain stored in the body, leading to chronic physical and emotional problems.
Through somatic healing-facilitated regression hypnotherapy, clients gain access to and release pent-up tension stored in the body, allowing them to return to a state of balance and well-being. By exploring physical sensations and experiences in the body, clients can gain insight into the root causes of their current problems and resolve any negative memories, emotions, and behaviors associated with past experiences. Levine’s work supports the idea that by tapping into the body’s natural wisdom, clients can heal from trauma and restore a sense of balance and well-being.
Past life and age regression hypnotherapy are two forms of regression therapy that offer a unique and effective approach to somatic healing. These forms of therapy work by accessing past experiences and emotions stored in the body, which can contribute to current physical, psychological, and emotional problems. By exploring physical sensations and experiences in the body, individuals can gain insight into the root causes of their current problems and resolve any negative memories, emotions, and behaviors associated with past experiences.
Past life regression hypnotherapy specifically focuses on exploring past lives, or past experiences that may have taken place in another time or place. This form of therapy allows individuals to tap into their collective unconscious and resolve any negative experiences that may be affecting them in their current life. It also offers them the opportunity for clarity and understanding of their life’s path and purpose which can alleviate suffering and promote trust in the guidance of a power greater than themselves.
Age regression hypnotherapy is a powerful technique that focuses on accessing and resolving negative experiences from an individual’s past in this life, such as childhood trauma or abuse. By revisiting and processing these past experiences, individuals can release pent-up emotions, resolve long-standing issues, and promote overall healing and well-being. This technique allows individuals to identify and heal unresolved issues from their past that may be contributing to present-day struggles. Once the negative imprint and identity are shifted and released, the current presenting issue is often resolved, providing a powerful transformational experience for the client.
Both past life and age regression hypnotherapy offer a unique approach to somatic healing by addressing the root causes of current physical, psychological, and emotional problems. By exploring physical sensations and experiences in the body, individuals can release pent-up tension and return to a state of balance and well-being. This can lead to significant improvements in physical and emotional health, including reduced anxiety, depression, and insomnia.
It’s important to note that regression hypnotherapy should only be used under the guidance of a licensed and trained practitioner. A qualified practitioner can help clients safely explore their past experiences and emotions and support them in resolving any negative memories, emotions, and behaviors associated with past experiences.
In conclusion, past life and age regression hypnotherapy offers a powerful approach to somatic healing for those looking to resolve the effects of past trauma. By accessing and resolving negative experiences and emotions stored in the body, individuals can tap into their body’s natural wisdom and heal from trauma, restoring a sense of balance and well-being.
Case study
PTSD: Abreactive hypnosis emphasized hypnotically activated “reliving” of the trauma experience to physical and psychological exhaustion. In the first study hypnosis and control group’s reduced PTSD checklist (PCL) scores immediately post treatment (placebo PCL score mean reduction 17. 34 and EST treatment PCL mean reduction 53.11). However, only the hypnosis patients maintained significant treatment effects at follow-ups.
A second study used used the Davidson Trauma Scale (DTS), Beck Depression II (BDI – II), and Beck Anxiety Scales (BAI). Only the hypnosis group showed significant positive effects from pretreatment to all post treatment measurement periods.
